§ 34-34. Duties of director.

  • The duties of the director of the emergency management agency shall include but are not limited to the following:

    (1)

    Coordinating the recruitment of volunteer personnel and agencies to augment the personnel and facilities of the city for emergency purposes. All volunteers performing emergency functions pursuant to this article shall serve with or without compensation. While engaged in emergency functions, duly assigned volunteers shall have the same immunities as city officers and employees.

    (2)

    Development and coordination of plans for the immediate use of all of the facilities, equipment, manpower and other resources of the county for the purpose of minimizing or preventing damage to persons or property; and protecting and restoring to usefulness, governmental services and public facilities necessary for the public health, safety and welfare.

    (3)

    Through public informational programs, educating the civilian population as to actions necessary and required for the protection of their persons and property in case of emergency attack or disaster, either impending or present.

    (4)

    Conducting practice alerts to ensure the efficient operations of the emergency management forces and plans and to familiarize residents with emergency procedures and operations.
